The Purpose of a Teaching Philosopy

A Philosophy of Education represents a comprehensive and interrelated set of values and beliefs as applied to education. Identifying one’s personal philosophy of education can enhance the degree of congruence between a teacher’s beliefs/values and their actions in the practice of teaching. It can provide a basis for mutual understanding and acceptance among members of an instructional “team” (Zinn, 2007).
The learning facilitator and teacher with a sense of purpose, articulated in the missions statement of their educational philosophy find themselves excited, focused, and re-energized, even through the various ebbs and flows of elation and tribulation in education.
