Special Interests

My independent study (books I'm reading)

Parts of this book was incorporated into a class that I recently took, ADAE 620: Processes and Methods for Adult Education.  I found that while I already incorporate some of the principles expounded upon in this book, because they were intrinsic to creating a safe learning environment, I found I wanted to learn more

Some of the ideas explored in the book are:

     1) CRT goes beyond diversity training into empowering students to think critically and improve cognitive processing.

     2) CRT encourages the establishment of relationship which lowers stress hormones and increases the likelihood of learning occurring.

     3) CRT encourages metacognition and the continual reflection necessary for educators to address the needs of their students.

These "Yo Mamma" jokes are a great way to build vocabulary.  I use it as an ice-breaker or transitional activity, or just because they're just so darn fun.

The next books I am reading

Books I have read in the last year

Brene Brown's books are all amazingly relevant and life-changing.  Here, she challenges us to embrace a different perspective of faults, imperfections, and challenges.

Great resource of techniques for adult learning environments that work.  Couples teaching goals with learning outcomes.

My best friend, a professional editor, published her first book.

Comprehensive and practical approach to adult learning and motivation.  My copy is heavily highlighted, dog-eared, and tabbed.  It will be a resource for years to come.

My son was a researcher for Mr. Bacevich and is credited in his acknowledgements.  Proud mamma.

One of the best books I've ever read.  I will never be ungrateful for anything again.
